What is Squamous cell carcinoma?
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a common form of skin cancer that arises from squamous cells, which are flat, thin cells found in the outermost layer of the skin, as well as in the lining of various organs, such as the respiratory and digestive tracts. SCC is often associated with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, but it can also occur in other areas of the body not typically exposed to the sun, including the mouth, throat, esophagus, and genitals.
